Arrive Nelspruit

Pick up your car rental at Kruger Mpumalanga Airport and drive to Biyamiti Bushveld Camp in the Southern Kruger National Park. Enjoy a scenic self-drive game drive en-route. Accommodation before the tour starts can be arranged at an additional cost.

Kruger National Park

The Kruger Park is without a doubt the highlight of any visit to South Africa. The park stretches for about 350 km from south to north along the Mozambique border to where South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe meet at the infamous Crook’s Corner on the confluence of the Luvuvhu and Limpopo rivers.

Well known for its diversity of habitat and wildlife, Kruger offers visitors an excellent opportunity to experience close encounters with elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard in a natural unfenced environment. Wild dog, cheetah, zebra, giraffe and a variety of other species are also indigenous to the park. A paradise for the wildlife enthusiast with close to 150 mammals, over 380 species of indigenous trees, as well as over 500 bird species, the park is a birdwatcher’s haven.

Biyamiti Bushveld Camp (Day 1)

1 Night En-suite Cottage, Self-catering – 110 km

On the banks of the Mbiyamiti river, hidden by Delagoa thickets, nestles one of the most beautiful bushveld camps in the Kruger National Park. The camp is ideally situated between huge Wild Fig and Jackal berry trees with vast numbers of other fauna and flora species in abundance. The area is a game spotters dream come true. The cottages are well-suited for those guests who are looking for a self-catering bushveld experience. En-route to the camp, you will enjoy a scenic game drive.

Lower Sabie (Day 2 & 3)

2 Nights En-suite Bungalow, Self-catering – 54 km

In the morning, before leaving Biyamiti, enjoy a guided morning Bush Walk. Then take a leisurely 2-hour self-drive game-drive to your next destination. Lower Sabie Rest Camp is well-positioned on the Sabie River for birds and animals with diverse ecozones including cheetah and wild dog. Visitors to Lower Sabie cannot but feel soothed by the view towards the river and the Lebombo Mountains beyond.
The following day, explore this part of the Kruger at your own pace. In the evening you will go on a guided Night Game Drive departing from Lower Sabie.

Swaziland

Swaziland, officially the Kingdom of eSwatini, means “Land of the Swazis”. One of the last absolute monarchies in the world, it is one of the smallest countries in Africa and has a well-earned reputation for friendliness in Southern Africa. It also contains several moderately sized game parks and reserves, which are sponsored by the government and are popular tourist destinations for good reason.

Ezulwini Valley (Day 4)

1 Night En-suite Room, Bed & Breakfast – 240 km

Today you will drive to the Swaziland border and from there make your way to the Ezulwini Valley. Mogi Boutique Hotel is a recently renovated Guest House. The views of either up behind them to Sheba’s Breast or down below to the valley of heaven (Ezulwini) are just breathtaking. Each room has a unique and special quality. The location couldn’t be more convenient.

Hlane Royal National Park (Day 5 & 6)

2 Nights En-suite Cottage, Self-Catering – 120 km

After breakfast enjoy the scenic drive to Bhubesi Camp. Bhubesi is found in the northwest corner of the Hlane Royal Park. The camp overlooks the Umbuluzana River, with its reed beds and dense riverine vegetation and is private. The camp has six self-contained stone cottages with all the comfort of home, including electricity, in a pristine riverine setting.
The following day, explore the Park at your own pace on leisurely game drives.

Mkuze Game Reserve (Day 7)

1 Night En-suite Chalet, Self-catering – 210 km

Today you will leave Swaziland and enter Northern KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. Mantuma Camp in the Mkuze Game Reserve, where you will be staying, forms part of the protected iSimangaliso Wetland Park area. The Mkuze River runs along the northern and eastern borders with fig forests along its banks. Various animal species that may be found in the Mkuze Reserve include White and Black Rhino, Leopard, Elephant, Giraffe, Nyala, Wildebeest and much more. You also have the chance to enjoy one of three hides that have been placed within the reserve, a great place to witness animal species and birdlife.

Tembe Elephant Park (Day 8 & 9)

2 Nights En-Suite Tent, Full Board – 135 km

The legendary Ivory Route where the great tuskers still tramp their ancient pathways through dense sand-forest and tall yellow grass. This is Tembe Elephant Park, a 300 sq km reserve between Zululand and Mozambique, home to Africa’s largest elephants as well as the smallest antelope, the suni. The Big 5 also find their home here, as well as more than 340 bird species and myriad other animals and plants. It is also the ancestral home of the Tembe people. Accommodation is in authentic yet comfortable tented en-suites.

Hluhluwe-iMfolozi & Falaza (Day 10 & 11)

Today, you will drive through the stunning KwaZulu-Natal countryside to Hluluwe-iMfolozi Park for a leisurely and exciting Big 5 self-game drive. After your day in Hluluwe-Imfolozi, you will drive to your luxury tented lodge located near the Park and Lake St. Lucia. Enjoy a fine dinner admiring an African sunset.

Falaza offers a choice of exhilarating safari experiences on foot, by game vehicle or on water. Rich bird life abounds in settings as diverse as the primordial sand forest or the water wilderness park of the Mzinene River. St. Lucia (Day 12 & 13)

The Greater St Lucia Wetland Park was the first area in KwaZulu-Natal to be awarded World Heritage status. It extends along a vast section of the northern coastline stretching from Mapelane Nature Reserve to Kosi Bay on the Mozambique border and extending 5 km into the ocean. This magnificent World Heritage site protects magnificent beaches, aquatic life and coral reefs as well as vegetated dune forests, lake systems, estuaries, swamps, bushveld and riverine forests with all its resident wild fauna.

Today you will explore the incredible iSimangaliso Wetland Reserve and indulge in the beautiful natural surroundings of St. Lucia. Lake St Lucia is Africa’s largest estuarine system. It is a unique lake that stretches for an expansive 38 000 ha offering some of the most diverse wildlife and outdoor experiences in the country. Enjoy a sundowner on the upper deck of your accommodation, Ndiza Lodge, while admiring the stunning views of the Umfolozi River Mouth, Lake St. Lucia and the Indian Ocean.

Eshowe (Day 14)

1 Night En-Suite Room, Bed & Breakfast – 160 km

Eshowe is set on a hill where Zulu kings used to reside, wrapped around the 250 ha Dlinza Forest with hiking trails and excellent bird watching. The forest is regularly visited by avid birdwatchers, hoping to perhaps catch a lucky glimpse of one of the more elusive species such as the Spotted Trush or Delegorgue’s Pigeon.

Eshowe and surrounding district offers a variety of attractions and activities. This includes Shakaland, well known for Zulu culture, colonial and African museums, and other unique cultural heritage spots of unique. Eshowe Guest House is set in a beautiful garden adjacent to the Dlinza Forest.

Drakensberg & Lesotho (Day 15, 16 & 17)

3 Nights En-Suite Room, Bed & Breakfast – 100 km

The last town in the southern Drakensberg, Underberg, lies immediately beneath the majestic mountains of this area, their looming greatness offering a multitude of hikes and moments of breathtaking beauty. Underberg forms part of the Sani Saunter offering many outdoor opportunities and unparalleled mountain scenery. The Sani Saunter extends from Loteni in the north to Bushman’s Nek in the south, including the little town of Underberg and her quaint neighbour, Himeville, just 5 km away, and as its name indicates, there is access to numerous hikes and walks in this part of the world.
Underberg makes for a perfect base from which to explore the spectacular Sani Pass into Lesotho and to get a taste for Basotho culture. Guided birding trips in this area deliver some of the best birding in South Africa.

Accommodation is at The Old Hatchery, a guest house near Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park, overlooking a farm dam and the mountains.

Activities Included: Sani Pass Day Tour into Lesotho

On the first morning after breakfast, you will depart with your driver-guide from the guest house at 09h30 in a 4X4 vehicle with a guide for your Sani Pass Day Tour. It takes approx. 2½ hours to reach the summit, travelling approximately 16 km to the South African Border Post and then a further 8 km up the Sani Pass to reach the Lesotho Border Post, climbing a grand 2,874 metres above sea level! Guides stop at breathtaking view sites along the Sani Pass and the two border posts.
Once at the top of the Sani Pass-, you’ll enjoy lunch at the highest Pub in Africa. After lunch the Tour continues a further 7 km into Lesotho to Skeering – a living Basotho village, where the mountain guide will interest you on Lesotho and its people – the hardy mountainous Basotho folk. Traditional beer and homemade bread offered on request. You wind down the Sani Pass after this cultural experience and arrive back in Underberg between 16h00- 16h30 depending on the wildlife spotted along the way.

Activity Included: Drakensberg Birding / Hiking Day Trip

The second morning after breakfast, meet your expert birding guide at the guest house. This day-trip will take you birding in the lower Sani Pass after which you’ll head to the grasslands to look for cranes and waterfowls. This area of the Drakensberg has a high density of endemic birds and deliver some of the best birding in South Africa. If birding is not your thing, join a mountain guide on one of the many amazing hikes to do in the Drakensberg.

Depart Durban

After breakfast the following morning you will drive to Durban, King Shaka International Airport. Drop-off your car rental (one-way drop -off fee included in tour price) and get ready to depart on your flight.
