Arrive Durban

Pick up your car rental at King Shaka Airport on Durban’s north coast and drive to Ballito Bay. Accommodation before the tour starts can be arranged.

Stunning Ballito is a natural bay on KZN’s north coast 50 km north of Durban City. Known for its golden swimming beaches, relaxing vibe and tropical vegetation, it is the perfect spot to kick off your tour and get into that holiday vibe. St. Lucia & Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park

3 Nights En-suite Cabana, Bed & Breakfast – 200 km

On Day 2 you will start driving up the coast to St Lucia. The Greater St Lucia Wetland Park was the first area in KwaZulu-Natal to be awarded World Heritage status. It extends along a vast section of the northern coastline stretching from Mapelane Nature Reserve to Kosi Bay on the Mozambique border and extending 5 km into the ocean. In the afternoon, take in the lake’s scenery in the best way possible: per boat. On the 2-hour boat cruise (included in the package) you’ll be able to view the resident hippo’s and crocodiles. After breakfast on Day 3, drive to Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park to spend the day exploring the Park’s wildlife on a self-drive game drive. On Day 4, drive into iSimangaliso Wetland Park for more game watching on a self-drive game drive.

Your accommodation is located in a quiet street of St Lucia with panoramic views of the Ocean, Umfolozi River mouth and Lake St. Lucia. Each self-catering cabana has a private patio with furniture and braai (barbeque) facilities. It is fully equipped and serviced daily.

Tembe Elephant Park

2 Nights En-suite Tembe Tent, Full Board – 207 km

On Day 5, drive to Tembe Elephant Park. In the afternoon, enjoy your first guided game drive. The following day on Day 6 you will enjoy an early breakfast at Tembe followed by a morning safari game drive. Return just in time for a light brunch and a refreshing dip in the pool. Late afternoon, get ready for another exciting afternoon game drive with sundowners overlooking the waterhole. This 300 sq km reserve between Zululand and Mozambique is home to Africa’s largest elephants as well as the smallest antelope, the suni. The Big 5 also find their home here, as well as more than 340 bird species and myriad other animals and plants. It is the ancestral home of the Tembe people.

Your semi-luxury accommodation in a Tusker tent offers privacy and serenity, has an outdoor shower and private patio with comfy camping chairs.

Pongola Game Reserve

2 Nights En-suite Thatched Chalet, Dinner, Bed & Breakfast– 120 km

On Day 7, after breakfast and the morning game drive, you will drive in the direction of Lake Jozini to enter Pongola Game Reserve. The reserve’s unique setting makes for a very interesting visit: A combination of bushveld, mountains and the lake fed by the Pongola River meandering through the centre of the reserve. Four of the Big Five reside in the area as well as hippopotamus, crocodile and numerous other species. Birdwatchers will be in paradise. On the guided afternoon game drive (included) in an open safari vehicle you might encounter sightings of White Rhino, Buffalo, Giraffe, Blue Wildebeest, Zebra, Kudu, Nyala, Warthog, Impala and other species. Day 8 will be spent relaxing at the lodge or enjoying other activities in the reserve such as boat cruises, game walks, rhino tracking or tiger fishing.

Accommodation is in a semi-luxury lake lodge elevated on a cliff overlooking Lake Jozini and the surrounding bush. Each thatched chalet has air-conditioning, a mini-fridge and private veranda.

Eshowe

1 Night Serviced Suite, Bed & Breakfast – 265 km

After breakfast on Day 9, drive to Eshowe. Eshowe is set on a hill where Zulu kings used to reside, wrapped around the 250 ha Dlinza Forest with hiking trails and excellent bird watching. The forest is regularly visited by avid birdwatchers, hoping to perhaps catch a lucky glimpse of one of the more elusive species such as the Spotted Trush or Delegorgue’s Pigeon. Eshowe and surrounding district offer a variety of attractions and activities. This includes Shakaland, well known for Zulu culture, colonial and African museums, and other unique cultural heritage spots of unique.

Accommodation is in a mid-range guest house set in a tranquil garden next to the Dlinza Forest. Each comfortable serviced suite has air-conditioning, its own entrance and a courtyard. A fully equipped kitchen, dining room and barbeque area are available for preparing lunches and dinners. Eshowe offers a variety of lovely attractions such as the Dlinza Forest with hiking trails, picnic spots and the stunning Dlinza Forest Aerial Boardwalk.

Giant’s Castle, Central Drakensberg

2 Nights En-suite Chalet, Bed & Breakfast – 275 km

After breakfast on Day 10, you will start driving to the Drakensberg. Giants Castle Game Reserve is situated on a plateau which lies below the steep face of the Drakensberg Mountains. It is the only place in the world where one can observe the rare Lammergeyer (Bearded vulture). Eland antelope are commonly seen. Fantastic views are present all around, especially for those interested in hiking. Prehistoric San rock art can be viewed on a guided tour. The art in this large sandstone cave is one of the best-preserved painted sites in South Africa.

Day 11 can be spent exploring the excellent hiking routes, taking in the lovely views on a leisurely drive taking part in any of the activities on offer at the Reserve.

Your mid-range accommodation has en-suite facilities, a lounge and dining area, as well as a fully equipped kitchen. Each chalet has a fireplace and barbeque area.

Underberg, Southern Drakensberg

On Day 12, drive south to travel to experience part of the Drakensberg. Overlooking the Umzimkulu River to the east and the Drakensberg Mountains to the north, Underberg is a popular base from which to explore the Southern Drakensberg. Your luxury resort hotel is located near Underberg and Himeville, next to the Mkhomazi Wilderness area at the foot of Sani Pass. The resort is the perfect base for 4×4 excursions up the Sani Pass as well as fly fishing and bass fishing. On Day 13, after breakfast you will be picked up by the hotel for your guided day trip to Sani Pass where you will climb up Sani pass on an exciting 4×4 drive and visit a traditional Lesotho Village too.

On Days 14 you will drive along the coast again past Ballito Bay until you reach Umhlanga. Umhlanga Beach with its lovely 2.5 km promenade is well-known for its vibey seafood restaurants, steakhouses, posh bars and local Durban curry eateries. On Day 15, drive to Durban Beachfront to walk along the Golden Mile, enjoy a swim, visit the street market selling excellent souvenirs or take the SkyCar ride up the Moses Mabhida Stadium arch to the 360˚ viewing platform offering phenomenal city views. You may also visit some of the city’s excellent museums and art galleries, there are plenty of options to choose from. Your semi-luxury guest house is just a short walk away from the beautiful Umhlanga beach and promenade, perfect for a late afternoon stroll. Each room is air-conditioned and beautifully furnished, leading directly to the pool or garden.

After breakfast on Day 16, drive 17 km to King Shaka International Airport. Drop-off your car rental (one-way drop -off fee included in tour price) and get ready to depart on your flight.
