Two ways to take a trip

There are many ways to skin a cat, the old adage tells us. Please allow us to put the cat amongst the pigeons as we let the cat out of the bag about an idea that is absolutely the cat’s meow: taking two self-drive trips in one!

Okay – enough ‘kitten’ around. What we suggest is a road trip that combines two of South Africa’s most beautiful regions in one, tailor-made, dream-come-true, self-drive vacation.

Why not start your Garden Route tour in South Africa’s Mother City and the world’s darling, Cape Town? Here you will collect your pre-booked rental car and receive your Garden Route tour package. This package will guide you every step of the way, with a map, travel directions and suggestions on what to do and where to go at each destination along your road trip.

This self-drive tour could include overnight stops at Hermanus, our land-based whale watching capital during whale season, beautiful Knysna, situated between the banks of the sparkling Knysna estuary and the mysterious Knysna forests, stunning Tsitsikamma and wild and wonderful Wilderness.

The Klein Karoo is full of beautiful vistas.

But then our tour takes an exciting turn into the awe-inspiring Klein Karoo and the quaint town of Oudtshoorn. And this is where the cat’s pyjamas come into play. (No – a slumber party in Oudtshoorn is not part of the tour. But we can arrange one if you’d like one.)

Rather than heading to the end of your road trip along the N2 national highway, why not veer onto Route 62 and follow it to Nirvana? Or to Stellenbosch, as the case may be.

Route 62 is a scenic route that meanders from Cape Town in the Western Cape all the way to Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape. The route itself extends from Montagu in the west to Humansdorp in the east, but the tourist route extends to the major cities in both provinces along other, easily accessed highways.

Many stunning mountain passes connect Route 62 with the Garden Route.

Incredible landscapes, magnificent mountains, beautiful mountain passes, and bubbling streams and rivers are on the menu of what is also the longest wine route in the Western Cape. Inviting towns nestle in fertile valleys and welcome you to stop over and explore the other side of the Garden Route. And Route 62 is quite literally the other side of the Garden Route as the mountain ranges between George and Cape Town are all that separates the Garden Route from Route 62. And a myriad of beautiful mountain passes, many designed and built by Andrew Bain and his son, Thomas, connect the two routes.

The beauty, calm and peacefulness of Route 62, also known as the Mountain Route, is what makes it the natural alternative to the N2 highway.

So contact us today to find out more about how we can tailor-make our Garden Route tour to suit your personal tastes, needs and budget – and how we can turn your one vacation into two road trips by including Route 62 in your itinerary.

Oh – and no cats were harmed during the writing of this blog post.
